Our Introductory Self Defence program is specifically for people who want to learn effective self defence techniques.
We take the time to go through a private lesson with you so we can understand your needs. We are fully present with you and our intention is to share our knowledge, understanding and empower you to find your super powers.
Once you complete your private lesson you can join our group classes. Everyone in our school learns in a fun and safe environment.
We base our program on the techniques of Taekwondo, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling.
In this program, we will teach you how to neutralize the most common attacks ranging from having your hair grabbed to being pinned to the ground by an assailant.
Each lesson addresses different techniques. You can start the program at any time and learn at your own pace. Unlike most self defence systems that rely heavily on strength, speed, and coordination, the techniques in our program employ leverage, technique, and timing, so anyone, regardless of age or athletic ability, can make them work against larger opponents.
Our self defence style is about using what generally works for smaller framed people so it's perfect for all body types.
Your 1-to-1 lesson is our special time with you so we can understand your needs. We are fully present with you and our goal is to help you feel confident in your new skills.
Once you're confident with some key skills we book your group class with other participants of similar skill levels.

Self Defence Hub was founded in January 2014 by Andre Coñate, who has an extraordinary passion for women's empowerment and safety.
Looking at the Australian national statistics of crimes (particularly against women) Andre felt she had to do something to be of service to those in need of learning valuable self defence skills. Having studied martial arts for over 25 years she felt that she was the most qualified person to bring this empowering environment to life. She wanted everyone to feel safe and capable of self protection if any situation called for it.
So, you can have complete confidence that she will take you though each step with thorough guidence and expert knowledge. There are no egos in the group. She supports each member to empower themselves and others.
I can’t tell you how profound that experience was… what Andre did for us was shift a mindset for me just by teaching us basic moves it made me really understand that I’m not a victim, no matter what happens I can actually engage with whatever is happening and I can fight back. She really showed us how. It was amazing! It just changed my mind completely and I’ll never forget that experience.
Once you train each techique and have developed muscle memory, we put you to the test in our group class. Our classes are about challenging you so you can grow and gain confidence in your skills. We are all about creating a fun and safe environment.
